Gzira United up to second place after fourth consecutive win

16/10/22

Gzira United continued and maintained their unbeaten run of nine matches in the League extending from the previous season. With the fourth successive win registered today against Floriana they have now climbed to second joint place with Birkirkara and two points under leaders Hamrun Spartans. This continues to confirm Gzira’s credentials as title challengers for this season.

Missed opportunity for maroons to close gap at the top

30/10/22

Gzira United lost for the first time this season to leaders Hamrun Spartans. Gzira’s 10 match unbeaten run of positive results also came to an end. The last team to beat Gzira in the league were the same Hamrun, with such a win coming last April. With this victory, Hamrun have stretched their lead further over Gzira in second place by 7 points. Despite remaining sole second in the table, this defeat has dented Gzira’s title aspirations

The match was suspended in the 63rd minute, in view that the pitch was waterlogged and unplayable. 48 minutes later, the match resumed, after the referee accompanied by the club officials of both teams, inspected the bounce of the ball on the pitch and deemed it fit for play.

Gzira succumb to second defeat of the season

03/12/22

Gzira United have lost their second match of the season after being beaten by Balzan by a solitary goal. This was a very frustrating and disappointing result for Gzira. The Maroons have missed a golden opportunity to continue reducing the gap with leaders Hamrun, after the Spartans unexpected defeat to Zebbug last weekend. Gzira’s loss has further proved costly, after all their main challengers won their respective matches this weekend. Hamrun have continued extending their lead on Gzira to nine points.

Gzira drop points in first match of New Year

Gzira United 1 Gudja United 1

7/1/23

Gzira started off the New Year slipping up with the loss of two precious points in a scrappy 1-1 draw against hopeful frontrunner's Gudja United.

The jinx of Gzira conceding late goals and missing out on important points has struck again. This was a frustrating match for Gzira who have become accustomed to such similar matches in the past, when they have been missing out on precious points in matches against lesser quoted opposition, especially when surrendering leads in the later stages of such matches. If the Maroons have to be considered as serious title challengers, it is such matches which have to be won.
